Your Baby's First Appointment
The Peek-A-Boo Appointment
Following
the recommendations of the American Dental Association, we like to see
children around their first birthday. We call this appointment, The
Peek A Boo Appointment, which is a time for us to check the
development of your child's teeth, examine the oral cavity, and check the
child's bite.
During this appointment our staff discuss feeding habits, oral habits, oral
hygiene instructions and other information.
The Peek-A-Boo appointment gives you and your
child the right start for years of positive dental care. Our goal for your
child is a lifetime of strong healthy teeth and gums and a bright smile.
To promote preventive dentistry in young
children, we now offer seminars for parents. Information is given on
teething, dental development, infant safety and nutrition. Your
Mommy and Me Group
can schedule a visit to our office, or a
representative of our office will come to your location. Please
contact one of our offices to schedule a date.

Continuing Care
After
the Peek a boo exam, children will be scheduled to return depending upon
how many teeth have erupted in to the mouth, usually at 6 to 12 month
intervals. As they mature, they will be transitioning from the peek a
boo room to the dental chair for an exam and polishing of the teeth.
We encourage
you to make this appointment in the morning when your child is rested. You
may want to leave siblings at home and make this a special time for just
your child. Dads are always welcome!
The appointment starts with a completed
health history.
Please
let us know if your child has any special needs or concerns. Our highly
trained staff greets your child and has them select their toothbrush and
toothpaste. Immediately you and your child feel the warmth and creativity
of our office.
Your child is then taken to the dental chair where a
very memorable photo is taken. Our young patients, guided by their
parents, learn how to brush and floss their teeth and will receive a
motivational flossing chart.
Parents
receive nutritional counseling, oral hygiene instructions for their
children and important dental topics are also discussed.
Then your child will have a complete dental exam and
cleaning which includes checking for cavities and gum disease, checking
the bite for correct alignment of the jaw and checking the development of
the teeth. This appointment includes a parent consultation and examination
with the doctor. Every appointment ends with a trip to the toy box for a
job well done!
We welcome children with special needs and concerns.
Please schedule these appointments early in the morning.
